The Vasilikos
Peninsular forms the southern end of Laganas Bay on one side and
the continuance of the East Coast passed Zante town
ARGASSI
Travelling south past the
main town and on to the resort of Argassi. The peninsular at the
very south of Zante is mainly mountains the east coast from Argassi has
some small resorts where you can enjoy many water sports. The west
side which is part of Lagana Bay and the Marine Park has little access
apart from Dafni and at the very end Gerakas a lovely beach but also home
to the loggerhead turtles so restrictions will be in force.
BANANA BEACH
The largest beach is Banana beach
but you will find a lot less in the way of entertainment here
just a long sandy beach.
PLAKA BEACH &
ST. NICHOLAS BEACH
The road from Argassi hugs the
east coast of the island. The mountains rise up to your right but as
you go along there are signs off to the small beaches and hotels on the
left. Two of the main beaches and much publicised are St Nicholas and Plaka beach. Both have restaurants and bars and water sports
including diving.
GERAKAS
Right at the foot of the peninsular
is Gerakas a beautiful sandy
beach but with many restrictions as it fronts on to Lagana Bay where the
Turtles nest and is part of the Marine Park. You will also find
information about the Turtles here as there is a small exhibition.
DAFNI
Before Gerakas but
also fronting Lagana Bay is Dafni. There is now a car park here the
beach again is restricted, no water sports and no sitting on the
soft sand. However it is a shady beach as there are trees
and plants and three or four Tavernas. As you drive down
to Dafni you will see the entrance to Sekania, no one is allowed
on this beach as it is the highest density beach for the nesting
